What's the fuss all about?
The Rolex Daytona Paul Newman. No other watch in the brand's archives garners so much attention and excitement. To call it a vintage classic does not do the watch justice – that's like calling Superman a strong guy. What is it about this particular collection of watches that gets Rolex enthusiasts (and even some non-Rolex fans) in such frenzy? Can it really be boiled down to the man who made it famous – does a cool celeb endorsement really have that much staying power? Or is it the fact that when it was first released, it was basically ignored, collecting dust on the shelves, only becoming very much in demand later on? What about the stupendous growth of the resale prices over the last few decades – that graph is steeper than a double black diamond trail – that's pretty darn exciting too.

Whatever the reasons are, take away all those factors, and the most important thing to consider, at least in my opinion, is that a vintage Daytona Paul Newman is a very fine looking watch. The only difference between a regular Cosmograph Daytona and the Paul Newman versions is aesthetics. Nothing more, nothing less. The Paul Newman timepieces are equipped with what is known as an “exotic dial” and it's precisely these dials that make the watches so attractive. Don't get me wrong; the standard Daytona chronos are sublime watches too, but the Paul Newman ones have a certain je ne sais quoi that lends them their distinct and unique appeal.

Take for example this particular ref. 6239 from the mid-1960s, which coincidentally is the reference that Paul Newman himself wore (but the white dial version) that skyrocketed the collection to its notorious fame. The trio of colors – black, white, and red – contrast harmoniously together for an unforgettable look. The black matte dial is the perfect backdrop for the white subdials to pop while the red outer minute track brings a dynamic element to the overall style.

Dal design elegante e con una serie di opzioni cinghia, il nuovo Oris Big Crown PROPILOT giorno / data è certamente un orologio vorrei indossare. A partire dal lato esterno, troviamo una serie di opzioni cinghia. È possibile acquistare l'orologio sia con: un cinturino in pelle marrone, un cinturino in pelle grigio con una impronta di coccodrillo, un cinturino in pelle nera, un cinturino in tessuto grigio o un bracciale in metallo acciaio inossidabile spazzolato. Io personalmente preferisco il cinturino in pelle marrone, come lo sento adatta l'aspetto pilota oh così bene. Il cinturino in metallo potrebbe essere lì, ma sembra un po 'a buon mercato nella foto (a destra). Dico solo questo perché il "collegamento" tra la cassa e il bracciale reale è un pezzo unico e, pertanto, il bracciale è collegata solo attraverso il collegamento centrale. Non che questo è un grosso problema, che è ancora in corso per essere comodo e la gente non si nota un piccolo particolare tale.

Il cinturino in tessuto sarà certamente confortevole e corrisponde al quadrante abbastanza bene. Le altre due opzioni in pelle anche adattano l'orologio abbastanza bene, ma detterà la situazione in cui si potrebbe indossarlo. Il cinturino in coccodrillo conferisce all'orologio un aspetto più raffinato, mentre la pelle nera untextured manterrà il look casual (anche se io personalmente non credo che sembra buono come il cinturino marrone). Spostandosi verso l'interno, si incontra la cassa in acciaio 45 millimetri, la cui lunetta si ispira turbine a reazione. La corona non avvitare, dando l'orologio un rating resistenza all'acqua di 100m. Il quadrante antracite ha un modello raggio di sole, che aggiunge un po 'di "pop" per ciò che altrimenti sarebbe un semplice (ma ancora di bell'aspetto) di progettazione. Probabilmente, dal momento che il quadrante raggio di sole non sta in piedi fuori tutto il tempo, il quadrante può ancora essere considerato piuttosto semplice. I marcatori e le mani entrambi hanno lume su di essi. All'interno si trova la Oris Cal. 752, un movimento basato sul Sellita SW 220-1.
